International Women’s Day is on the 8th of March and is celebrated by countries, governments, organizations, and individuals around the world. It’s a global day to recognize the achievements and contributions women make to our everyday economic, political and social lives. International Women’s Day is a time for us all to pause, reflect and act on the changes needed to create a truly inclusive society. What does this mean to all of us?
To #EmbraceEquity, We Must Embrace Women in Leadership
The United Nations (UN) recognized that in order to achieve its 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, it would be essential for women to participate equally in leadership, including political and public life. Today, women are underrepresented in all levels of decision-making, including in the professional world. In some industries, this gap is exponentially larger, such as in transport where women make up 22 percent or less of the workforce.
At sennder, we recognize that as an organization we still have room for improvement. But we are also proud that we are seeing the results of our efforts to promote women, such as the 41 percent of women represented in our high potential leadership program sennUP and our support of awareness initiatives such as International Women’s Day.
With that, we’d like to celebrate a few of the talented women who work at sennder in their own words. We asked what advice they would give to other women. Here’s what they had to say:
Aditi Sodhi, senior engineering manager in Berlin
“Build a great network not just of women, but all genders and cultures, and then try to move to a leadership role. It becomes easier to move up. Also, don't give up. If you face some bias or issues, talk to other women in leadership and try to understand how they handled it. Learn from them and create your own path and process. But, most importantly, don't give up.”

“Don't let anyone step on you or make you feel uncomfortable. Call out poor behaviour. Don't be scared to go for the role if you're the only woman going for the job. I have been in that situation in my career - go for it!”

“Dare to lead, be brave to defend and follow your ideas, if you truly believe they will make an impact. Find someone who supports and inspires you to grow and helps you overcome obstacles and be your cheerleader. It has been a game changer for me for sure.”

“What worked for me is believing in myself. So I would say: get ready and then trust yourself. Of course, you need to study, get prepared and then trust in your knowledge. Build up confidence and with time learn how to set some healthy limits. When thinking about getting a job in tech, sometimes in the job description you read a lot of requirements. I know that women don't apply if they don't meet 100% of them. I would advise them to go and apply, and try things out, it has worked for me.”
