The importance of gigaliners for the forwarding and transportation industry

The gigaliners have been driving on the streets of Germany for half a decade now – up until now mainly for test purposes, however now the oversized trucks are officially being set into action. The start of gigaliners in 2017

The gigaliners have been driving on the streets of Germany for half a decade now – up until now mainly for test purposes, however now the oversized trucks are officially being set into action. Many are skeptical of the 25-metre long gigaliners, but the vehicles are supposed to be not only much more environmentally friendly but at the same time, said to provide a relief to our road network. For long, a so-called nationwide positive network was debated, as of the 1st of January 2017, the regular operation of gigaliners in Germany has begun officially.

13 of the 16 Federal States are already involved

To many, the gigaliners are still unconventional due to their size, however, 13 of the 16 Federal States have opened a provisional order to this regulation, according to the ministry of transport. The positive net covers more than 11,500 kilometers in total length, around 70% of it extends over the highways of Germany. Currently, logistics companies complain due to the gaps in the network; federal states such as Berlin, Saarland or Rheinland-Pfalz are said to follow soon, according to the German forwarding and Logistics Association.

Diesel savings of up to 25%

According to the Ministry of transport, the new gigaliners are particularly efficient, diesel savings of 15% – 25% are to be realized. In theory, two gigaliners will replace three conventional trucks. According to the Ministry of transport, the infrastructure is not strained or claimed, despite the oversize.

A Symbol of innovation in the freight forwarding and transport sector

The introduction of gigaliners should also be used as a symbol of the innovative power of Germany in the Logistics sector. Also, we here at sennder are constantly looking for innovative and strong partners in the forwarding and transport area.
